Amie and Logan

It's a gloomy day outside here in Illinois. I have been working late every night for the past week trying to do a fast turnaround on the images I did for Amie and Logan a week ago. I normally have a turnaround time of about two weeks for an engagement session. But it's amazing what you can get done if you stay up late every night and just work work work. LOL. (Which sometimes feels like play if you enjoy what you are doing as much as I do. Don't tell anyone!) So anyways, back to that mundane weather. I called up Amie this morning and I asked her how it's going and she replied that it was pretty much gloomy and all. So I asked her if I told her that I had all her images done and they were online ready for her to look at if that would cheer up her outlook on today. :D Well, I can't really tell you how the rest of the conversation went from there because what was once a gloomy day turned into excitement and joy! I LOVE DOING THAT! She's totally stoked and loves them and I've already gotten a text with a million little exclamation marks (!!!!!) on it. :) Yes, I love my job because it makes me feel so alive. I love making someone's day. I just love that! And that's what it's all about. Doing something amazing for them.

Amie Moreland & Logan Anderson

After talking with Amie about what she liked, I really knew we needed sunny, warm, fairytale type weather if we were going to pull off something amazing for her engagement session. I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried that we were going to get rained out. Not that I didn't think we couldn't get cool pictures in the rain, it's just that it's not exactly what she wanted and that is not what I wanted.

Well, wouldn't you know it, God answered my prayers and blessed us with the clouds breaking up enough that we ended up with some awesome light. It was a total BLAST! Everything just felt so magical.

Discrimination against tall people.

Yes, it's true. Sometimes, being 6'3" can feel a little awkward. But, it's no reason to go around building objects to kill innocent people like me.

Signs don't make it better either. "Low clearance, please watch your head." <<>> And I'm still looking for the mirror. Really, if I put a huge trap right in the middle of a park or mall with man-eating tigers in it, ready to eat you alive, with a sign--"Man-Eating Tigers, Please Watch Your Step"—there would be those of you who just might not like it a whole lot. I bet you would even be a little ticked off. I mean, it could ruin your day just like this beam (pictured below) has and will continue to ruin mine and that of many of my vertically enhanced friends. Things like this just aren't funny.  I'm pretty sure the smallest kid in class--who was bitter growing up that he was overlooked or picked on--devised these instruments of mass destruction with an evil little snicker.

Just the other day I was helping move a bunch of furniture for this older really really shor...ahem... vertically challenged man and I quickly realized that if you work for someone who is lacking in perpendicular you had better assume it's a hard hat site. You should only enter at your own risk without a hard hat. You also assume all responsibility for damages made to the noggin. This guy had things hanging from rafters that about put an end to my days more than one time. It's amazing I still have a head  on my shoulders at all.

This is me after nearly dying from a severe blow to my cranium... weak and feeble as it may be it is the only one I have so I don't appreciate low hanging, low clearance, or  low flying objects... or cold hot dogs for that matter!

Everywhere I go there seems to be babies around.

I mentioned in the previous post that I was asked to take some pictures at an aunt's birthday party and while I was there I got to met Liv. . . Liv is 6 months old and very cute. Actually, I have no idea how old she is I just know she is really cute. Is that enough info for ya? I'm not a reporter . . . I'm a photographer!!! lol. And her Mom wanted some pictures taken.

So, here are some more baby images finding their way onto my blog. Which is cool with me. I love kids. All ages are cool. I tried to figuring out which age was more fun than the others and I can't really figure that out. I don't really think there is a difference between one and the other that makes one better than the other in my mind. Wow! Did that make sense? You know what, I think I'll stop right here and start letting the images talk for themselves, meet Liv! :)

The last of Samantha & Jared's Engagement photos. . .

Sorry I didn't post last night. It was a bit of a busy day, trying to knock out a bunch of images that I was editing for a follow photographer that I've been assisting with two awesome engagement sessions.

I love editing images almost as much as I love taking images . . . almost.  It's when I make my transition from being a people-pleaser to an artist. It's great fun. I can usually only take a few hours at a time before I find I have to get up and do something else. I'm not sure why. It could be that my eyes get tired of looking at a screen or maybe my brain just needs a break. But I figured you might enjoy knowing that I don't actually sit in front of my computer 24/7 and only take breaks to take more pictures.

Okay, so here are some of the last photos I'll post from this engagement session. I know for some of you this is old hat since they were on my facebook page (Create link) (I would love it if you would support me by being a fan of my page!) but they're not on my blog . . . and my blog needs to have them too. And, I liked it. :) It was a fun engagement session. Doing engagement photography in downtown Chicago (or wedding photography for that matter) is always good times. Actually, most all major cities have a lot to offer for unique, out-of-the-box photography. A game I kind of like to play when I'm doing photography in Chicago is looking for cool light, no matter the background. If I find cool light I'll have a cool image. Cool light can be found in strangest places. And I often feel that it is my job to find it. You know, I swear it's like hide and go seek. But even more rewarding. Sometimes I'm pretty sure it's waiting for me and my camera to get grab it. It's like it says to me, "Hey you! Party in your camera is about to happen if you come over here!" My camera and I are all about a good party with light and friends. Put the two together and you have something really going for you. :)

Ahhhhhh, the joy of light at the edge of a an overhang. It's something amazing for sure.

Shadows are another thing I really like a lot! Okay, I like them a lot a lot. 

Soft light . . . so calming.

 

It's funny just how happy these couples are when we are out taking pictures. I mean, last I checked, a lot of people think that getting your picture taken just isn't fun. LOL. NOT ANYMORE! We have good times when we go out. . . that's one of my secrets to good pictures. If you aren't having a good time, you aren't going to get good photos. People want to see real joy in images of themselves. Ya know?

Engagement session in downtown Chicago = good times!

I swear, we have so much fun when a couple, myself and my trusty camera go out looking for something amazing. It's just great! We laugh, we cry, we tease, we . . . rather they, hold each other tight . . . oh, by the way we don't really cry. Actually, that never happens. We are too busy having a great time. Duh! :P

New Born—Jack Williams

Last night I was at my Aunt and Uncle's home for a Welcome-Jack-into-the-world party. (I have NO idea what the real name is for something like that.) So I brought my camera along for fun. I thought it would be nice to go ahead and grab some images of the little guy for his parents while he is still so small. It's really amazing how fast newborns change. So, here are a few of what I got.

That's his Mother's wedding ring. . . yeah. Tiny cute feet. I guess you could say, you can take the photographer out of the wedding but you can't take the wedding out of the photographer.







If you could have seen what was on my nose you would have looked at me just like that too. :)

Christmas, and "ginger" bread houses!

Okay, so they aren't really ginger bread houses. But who really cares? The fact was we were all hanging around the table having a good time building and creating. I think the part we had the most fun with was making fun of poor Gramma, because her "lighthouse" looked more like a Russian spaceship from Candyland with a hump on its back. Seriously, no one could figure out what it was.

I think the part that's interesting about our family is this. We enjoy working together; we always have. It's something my parents have have set a high value on. But just like they predicted, we are each other's best friends in the whole world and would do anything for one another. We're all so different in so many ways, but we all love the way work brings us together. And building ginger bread houses has been a fun activity we have done for the past couple of years now. I think it's going to be a tradition for many more years to come.



Cameron did an awesome job on his house this year.



Konner is the detail man. He built an airport this year. In this shot it's the plane.



Bryce, appearing to be having a heart attack over his house coming down. Don't worry, he got it fixed up in no time. :)
