Remember that cute ring bearer?

So I promised in an earlier post that I was going to show off few more of this shy little guy. The same poor little guy who cried and said to his daddy that he didn't WANT his picture taken. :) Yup. Well, here are the others.

I like playing games with little guys and gals who think they don't want their
picture taken.

Well, you see, I had a promise that I made and one that I was going to keep. We were going to be friends by the end of that day.

Playing peep at the goofy photographer with his Uncle Brad.

Finally ending with the picture that his Uncle Brad wanted that would have been utterly impossible had I not befriended him first.

We're friends.

Good ol' iPhone art, right?

I'm pretty sure I can't even go running without thinking about taking my art and capturing images. It's a part of me. Well, I can't go running with the DSLR so out comes the iPhone again. :)

Sorry the post is kind of short today. I'm actually attending Escalatelive.com today. Never stop learning, right? :) If you are a photographer you should check it out! Good stuff!

I WILL shoot a wedding here before I die.

Last weekend I spent the day touring Chicago with some of my photographer friends, Evy Reneè, Olivia Fredrickson, and Leah Cross. It was fun! Got to tour them around and show them the sites, enjoy good food and most of all talk photography in a way that would probably bore 85% of people who aren't into photography heart and soul. lol. Something us photogs have to do from time to time. But while I was there I walked passed this awesome church and the just happened to be open so I walked in. :)

It didn't take me very long to vow to myself that I would shoot a wedding in that church before I die. Can't you just picture these aisle full of standing people as a beautiful bride is being walked down by her father??? I can! And I can't wait!

So there you have it. I WILL. Stay tuned to the blog. I'll be posting the pictures sooner than later from the wedding I'm shooting here... I hope. :D

The making of one of my personal favorite...

Here is the making of one of my personal favorite jump shots by groomsmen. This is from a wedding I did in the great state of Florida last year. It was fun to shoot my first wedding in Florida. It made for a great excuse to see a bunch of old friends and meet some new ones along the way. Next time I shoot a wedding in FL I'm staying a little longer. I swear we packed a weeks worth of fun into 3 days. And that's border-lining on not being healthy. lol. But like they say, "We'll sleep when we're dead," right?

Get ready... Set... GO!

Haha. Okay, I just love my final result from this bit of action. I was presenting the idea to the groom and he was like, "Yeah, Dude, you know what to do just tell us and we'll do it." I told them to go for some of the biggest air they could get off those steps without hurting themselves and I think it could be pretty awesome. They all looked around at each other and started nodding their heads a little as they said, "We can do that for ya'." Little did I know that when I gave the signal it was going to be more like a air show than a normal groomsmen jump shot.

The jump shot: some people rock it and others just can't fly. Well, these guys could rock while they fly! They are a group of competitive fun-loving dudes. Another cool fact is that something like half of these guys including the groom serve in the United States Air-force. Three cheers for our guys in uniform!!

I think they must know a thing or two about flying. ;)

I've got so many images from this wedding to show off still. lol. Check back for more. What a sweet time.

Perspective

Perspective is a big part of life. It's a big part of photography obviously too. Photography just channels your perspective to see what the artist wants you to see. It's an endless game of finding the right height or twist of the camera to get an image just right. People spend fortunes learning how to see life through a camera. I know I have.

But today I was thinking back to a time in my life when my perspective was way messed up. A time when I thought that the way I was was the way I was going to be for the rest of my life. I had some deep habits that I really didn't like and I couldn't kick. And it left me more and more unhappy with myself everyday. I had deep agreements that I made with the enemy about myself, lies that I believed must be true about myself. Just like this image, my perspective of life and the freedom I have in Christ looked okay, but in reality I was totally upside down.

From the outside you might think I was a pretty good guy living life a step better than everyone else. Or that's how I hoped everyone was seeing me. But on the inside I knew it wasn't true. But I couldn't find the truth because of my deep-seated pride. I was "doing okay!" At least that is what I thought from time to time. I figured I would get things staightened out on my own or learn to live with the way I was living life and be happy with it since there was obviously no other choices. I was bound by sin and pride. Changing was out of the question.

Through a series of events God was merciful enough to me to allow my habits to be exposed to some of the people I held dearest. I broke their hearts. It was then I was left with nothing but to find truth. My perspective was so wrong. I couldn't see things right. Something inside me screamed it was over and there was no point in going on and to just give up trying. I could never change. But there was a small voice that said, "The only way out is to find truth and and the only way to find truth would be to humble myself." And no matter what I was to submit to the authority of my parents. That was hard. I knew at this point the only thing I had left in this world was my God. I realized that my life was not my own anyways. I was living as if I could make all the final decisions, and I needed to give that authority to my heavenly Father.

In my quest for truth I found the Psalms really spoke into the place where I was. One of the scriptures I really hung on to for strength was Psalm 30. The whole chapter is chuck full of what I needed for where I was at that time, but these verses especially meant the most and gave me right perspective.

" To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
“What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!"

God's ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts. And as upside-down as our perspectives can get sometimes, God wants to see each and every one of us turn to him and live in his strength and freedom.

"You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."
~Psalms 16:11

It's time to confess and forsake these false joys of our hearts that leave us feeling empty and dirty and turn to the one who promises "fullness of joy" in his presence and true "pleasure" at his right hand.

Draw close to him and he will draw close to you. That is also promised in the Psalms. If you haven't ever read that book of the Bible or it's been a long time since you last did I would challenge you to go there with any questions you might have and see what Father answers you there. I can't wait to hear what he shows you.

Praise God that he is a Father of mercy and second and third chances.

Resources I found helpful:

The ultimate source of truth. I memorized a lot of it because I had to change my perspectives and thinking patterns.

Walking with God by John Eldredge
This book did more to chalenge me and the way I saw myself before God than I think any other book. It explains what I meant by "agreements" with the enemy and lies we believe about ourselves. I highly recommend this book to people of all ages.

Your Relationship with God by Dr. Gary Smalley.
This is a book about Dr. Gary Smalley working through some hard times himself and it really encouraged me to build some practical disciplines into my own life.

Amie and Logan

It's a gloomy day outside here in Illinois. I have been working late every night for the past week trying to do a fast turnaround on the images I did for Amie and Logan a week ago. I normally have a turnaround time of about two weeks for an engagement session. But it's amazing what you can get done if you stay up late every night and just work work work. LOL. (Which sometimes feels like play if you enjoy what you are doing as much as I do. Don't tell anyone!) So anyways, back to that mundane weather. I called up Amie this morning and I asked her how it's going and she replied that it was pretty much gloomy and all. So I asked her if I told her that I had all her images done and they were online ready for her to look at if that would cheer up her outlook on today. :D Well, I can't really tell you how the rest of the conversation went from there because what was once a gloomy day turned into excitement and joy! I LOVE DOING THAT! She's totally stoked and loves them and I've already gotten a text with a million little exclamation marks (!!!!!) on it. :) Yes, I love my job because it makes me feel so alive. I love making someone's day. I just love that! And that's what it's all about. Doing something amazing for them.
